Le multiculturalisme peut simplemen

Le multiculturalisme peut simplement désigner la coexistence de différentes cultures (ethniques, religieuses...) au sein d'un même ensemble (par exemple, dans un pays). Il peut aussi désigner différentes politiques volontaristes :
- Antidiscriminatoires, visant à assurer un statut social égal aux membres des diverses cultures ;
- identitaires, visant à favoriser l'expression des particularités des diverses cultures ;
- communautaires, permettant l'existence de statuts (légaux, administratifs…) spécifiques aux membres de telle ou telle communauté culturelle ;
- aujourd’hui le multiculturalisme se centre sur le thème religieux (pluralisme).

Dans les pays anglophones, le multiculturalisme est une politique menée par les gouvernements pour veiller à faire de leur société une mixité sociale.
